Frequently asked questions….
1.Do I need to own a horse to join the club?
No, you don’t need to own a horse to become a member. While many of our members do have their own horses, we welcome anyone with a love for horses and riding.
2. Can I book riding lessons at the club?
Yes! Riding lessons are offered by Chrisma Sutherland, an experienced instructor who runs her own riding school and makes use of our facilities. A dedicated page with more information will be available soon.
3. Can I take pictures at the club?
Yes, photoshoots can be arranged in advance by emailing us. Please note that we’ll need to notify members and staff beforehand, and certain rules must be followed to ensure everyone’s safety—especially the horses’.
-
Photoshoots are not allowed during times when horses are being let out to pasture or returning to their stables, as they move freely and quickly, which could pose a danger to visitors.
-
No balloons, loud props, or anything that might spook horses are permitted near them.
-
No flash photography or studio lighting may be used around horses.
-
Horses may not be removed from stables or camps without the owner’s consent.
-
No feeding or treating horses without the owner’s permission.
We understand that including horses and our club in your special memories is important to you, but please remember that horses are sensitive, unpredictable animals—especially around unfamiliar sounds and objects. Your cooperation helps us ensure the safety and well-being of both our horses and our visitors.
4. Can I feed the horses or give them snacks?
No, feeding or giving snacks to the horses is only allowed with the explicit consent of the owner.
While horses do eat a lot, their diets are often carefully managed. Some may be on specific feeding plans due to their involvement in competitive sports or show disciplines. Others may have sensitivities or dietary restrictions—similar to allergies in humans. What may seem like a harmless treat could negatively impact their health or performance.
We kindly ask that you admire the horses, but leave their care and feeding to their owners and trainers.
5. What type of stabling do you offer?
We offer semi-DIY stabling for horses of various breeds. Each morning, stable doors are opened, and horses run out in groups to their designated grass camps—mares and geldings are kept separately. In the late afternoon, they return on their own to their respective stables.
Our grooms ensure that stables are cleaned during the day, and wood shavings are regularly cleaned or replaced. Each horse also receives 1kg of pellets in the afternoon.
Members are responsible for:
-
Supplying daily fresh water
-
Providing any additional feed
-
Taking care of their horse’s tack and equipment
Facilities include wash bays, paddocks, tack storage, and round pens, offering everything needed for day-to-day horse care.
6.How much does stabling cost?
We offer both stable and outdoor camp options for horse owners:
-
Stable stabling: R1350 per month
-
Outdoor camps: R700 per month
-
Lockers: R90/R120/R150 (*limited lockers available)
Please note that these fees are reviewed annually and may increase following the club’s yearly budget meeting. We recommend confirming the latest prices with a member of the club committee to ensure accuracy.
